Hellos & Goodbyes, Black History Month, Mother May I?, The Frontlinerz: Join me will you?
Two Thursdays ago, 1/26, we said "So Long" to our friend and press agent, A.S. Cobb. He said Goodbye to L.A. and Hello to The Bay but there is a bright side here: When he said "Hello to The Bay" so did Overdue Exposure Magazine (OEM). Thank God it's not really goodbye because he's still working with OEM in our efforts to expand our West Coast coverage. Aside from his normal hard work as PR rep, he'll be writing a monthly newsletter strictly about Bay area happenings, including Hip Hop artist interviews, events & mixtape reviews--it's all good! But as excited as we are to be embarking on this new chapter with Cobb, we are sad that he can't kick it with us anymore, the way only we can. Dayum, we're already missing you Cobb! But we are so excited about this new chapter of OEM that we can't justifiably complain out loud. Not yet, at least. We'll wait until we get that newsletter in-hand, then we'll decide;0 LOL! We love you Cobb! You can run but you can't hide. Holla!

Gender Bender: James Tony, The Source Mag, Sojourner Truth, & Mary J. Blige - Oh, yeah, it's a Blast!
It's a rare Friday night at home for me and it's a good thing 'cause I'm hella tired. Not only am I overloaded on clubs, interviews and networking, but the politics of the business have me completely insane right now. As a woman in this business, there have been many times that I've had to triple-check myself before taking action (including vocally) against someone who is disrespectful and/ or extremely misogynistic in their tone and/ or behavior. And, ironically, this has nothing to do with spending the afternoon at the Wild Card Boxing Gym where the small crowded room was intoxicated on testosterone and then laced with Heavy Weight Champ, James "Lights Out" Tony's, spewing of non-stop sperm-driven commentary. Commentary, typically referencing his threats to fuck someone else's wife as punishment for running from his beat-down. No, that was actually comedic (more on this ina separate article). No, my experience was more personal, more hurtful than insulting. Yup, tonight, I had to go there.

The Conga Room
I know two Editorials in the same day is simply unheard of, but I really need to comment on our experience at The Conga Room last night. It was a party to celebrate DJ Quick's Independent Label Release & as well The Alkoholics' Album Release and it was supposed to be a great time. The place was packed and I was excited about getting some good pics and meeting some new industry people. But the end-result of the situation is that we didn't get in, and were harassed without warrant in the process. After experiencing parking drama, the promoter, Skinny (yup, I'm puttin' you out there), not answering his phone when we finally got to the door, and being hassled by security out front, we said "fuck it" and took our frustrated asses elsewhere.

Time Flies, for real! A West Coast Overview. . .
It's unbelievable that the month of January is damn-near over. O'Six has popped off like a ten-year old cork, and is now operating at rocket speed. And, speaking of ten-years, it's been about that long since The West has had Heat-- Above Ground. The early to mid-nineties was when Dr. Dre' & Snoop (with Tha Eastsidaz), PAC & Too Short, The Dogg Pound, Warren G & Ice Cube (along with the newly formed Westside Connection) to name a few, had taken over music.

The New West: Not Just Music
I know it's been a minute since you've heard from me but please believe, I'm still grindin'! Twice this month we've been to The House Lounge where New West artists Problem, Glasses Malone, Noni Spitz, Mykestro and Guerilla Black have been performing hott shows. We've had in-depth one on one interviews with all of the above (except Guerilla Black whom we'll be sitting down with soon, along with bubbling underground artists Roccett, Kila Krock, Young Malay, and the conscious rap group Sons of Jacob). The Music Reviews are on the way too, with profiles and mp3 links for you to check out, and even vote on. We've also decided to put a weekly model profile on the site for you to vote on for Model of the Month.

Silence!
I know this is an entertainment site, but let's step outside of that for a minute…or better yet, Inside. Because Universal Law says that before you can have a fabulous life in the material world, your inner world need be properly maintained and entertained. And, this brings us to The Silence. It's the place where one communes with God, Allah, The Creator, Life Force, All That Is, and it's where everything that materializes in one's life absolutely happens first. With good intention, ideas, desire and imagination--magic happens. But there are many distractions in this world that get in the way of one's personal magic. FEAR, MEDIA and TECHNOLOGY can kill us if we so allow. But if we're smart, and on top of our game, we can instead them our bitches.

Dancing Sugar Plums & G. Malone's Signing Party at the Grande, Downtown: Not a Bad Combo
Why does it always feel like a weight has been lifted once the holidays have come and gone? I'm sayin'! It was a good though, and I'm blessed to have who & what I do in my life (Including ya'll!). Hopefully your holidays were just as fulfilling.
Now, back to business!
G. Malone's Signing Party was Ri-dic-u-lous, in more ways than one. When we arrived it was madness…

Fresh Az We Iz! Don't Mind If We Do!
Good Morning from the West Coast. It's 2:00AM and I'm super-tired. But the excitement that I have for Overdue Exposure magazine is keeping me motivated and working until crazy hours every morning without complaint.
What is Overdue Exposure? Just that: Exposure that is Overdue. (For our mission statement, go to the Home Page). As a writer (author of the L.A. street story, Kismet--available at www.Amazon.com--LOL, a very shameless plug!), an avid fan of rap, and a bonafide citizen of the Hip-Hop society, I'm thrilled to be here. Welcome to my first Editorial.
