![]() Monday, December 26, 2005 11:14PM Why does it always feel like a weight has been lifted once the holidays have come and gone? I'm sayin'! It was a good though, and I'm blessed to have who & what I do in my life (Including ya'll!). Hopefully your holidays were just as fulfilling. Now, back to business! G. Malone's Signing Party was Ri-dic-u-lous, in more ways than one . When we arrived it was madness. . . and we were pretty early as 'getting to the club time' goes (about 10 o'clock). The security guards at the door were power-trippin', as usual. The crowd was massive yet semi-tame. I'd been yelled at by security at least three times for standing on the sidewalk in front of the door before deciding (for about 5 minutes) to stand in line. Like the nervy bitch that I can be when necessary, I called G. Malone on his cell lookin' for his dude (I won't name names) who was supposed to hook us up with press passes once we got there. "Just call me on my cell when you get there. We in charge of security, so there won't be no problems," he says. Ha! Dude didn't answer his cell all night! And I blew that bitch up too. Not cool, but not surprising either. This is a tough business, People! You meet all kinds. Glasses did answer his phone though. He apologized for the confusion and said he'd see what was going on. He was just pulling up himself and had already been getting calls of distress from friends and family close enough to him to have the number.
Before I could even hang up with him the white stretch limo rolls up and double parks next to the LAPD in front of the door. Now you know they weren't havin' that. In mere seconds until they were yelling over their megaphones, threatening to tow his ride. It was mayhem on the sidewalk, in the parking lot, and the street. There were scantily clad groupies, gangsters, rappers, gangster-rappers, their crews, rap enthusiasts/ fans, 100.3 The Beat listeners (salivating for their free drinks), and press (We had company this time. Who were these fools?) anxiously awaiting entry. True to Glasses' Grandness, this was a Grand affair, indeed. A lot of folks were V.I.P. status but with no tickets (us included!). Too V.I.P. to stand in line with common folk, we mobbed around with all the New West Artists and their crews, while waiting for our chance to crash the door. There were two lines, one on each side of the door. One line for The Paying, the other for those with tickets in hand. Both lines were long as hell. I'm mean, wrapped around the building long. The Paying line moved the fastest--of course. People need to make their dough! In the meantime, we're in the parking lot interviewing and chattin' it up with the other artists who came to support. This includes (but is not limited to), Ms. Chevy Jones, Bishop Lamont, Scipio, Mykstro and Roccett. Rapper, Problem and Super-Producer, Dae One were at the ropes on the verge of getting in, and later, inside, I bumped into Bangloose of The Frontlinerz and Ta'je with Thug Life and War Dogz. I later learned too that Ta'je was with "next -up" Rapper, Noni-Spitz and that The Beast of The Beauty & The Beast (mixed tape featuring Chevy Jones), Kila Krock, was in the house too. Krys Ivory sent me a note on My Space that she saw me there but was too far in the line to holla. She's adorable. I replied to her and asked if she had "security" with her, Lol. Talk about a 'Gangsta Party'! I've never seen a mainstream club with so many true life Gangstas in the buildin'! Crips on top of Bloods on top of Crips and still it was all love--at least to my knowledge, there were no problems. I hear there's a truce because of the recent execution of Stanley Tookie Williams, but what do I know about it? Hopefully it's true and eternal, is all I can say. Shout out to Ret.One of West Coast Rydaz for leading us to the door when it was time to crash through. We were chit chattin' with him when he spotted most all of the New West heading to the front door and then gave us the heads up (good lookin' out!). Tightly packed with Scipio leading the way and Bishop Lamont watching the rear (thanks Bish for makin' sure my folks got in!), we marched right through. Once up in the club, it was poppin'. I stepped off to a near empty room to regroup and consult with my team (Shout out to Uchendah (camera); A.S. Cobb (PR) and Drae (security) detail) and bumped into Bangloose (Frontlinerz) who is sippin' on his drink and chillin'. An even more surprising find was the man himself, Glasses Malone. It looked like he was hiding from the world is. But it was great for us 'cause we were able to get a few minutes with him before he performed. He was upset because of the situation outside with people having a hard time getting in. But once I told him that Bishop was finally inside, he was off to the stage. (Again, check out the video footage).
The performances were hot! G. Malone introduced Mykstro to the crowd then let him rip it. Bishop Lamont tore it down. Kam made a special appearance (Whoop Whoop!). And, of course Glasses did his thing. (Last time--pics and video are on the site) The dancefloor was packed, as were the bars. The champagne was flowin' onstage, blunts were being passed on the floor, purple and red rags were being waved, the crowd was hyped, the artists were energized and on point. It was a Beautiful Situation-- but I'm not crazy! We were chillin' at a table against the wall with the side exit less than ten feet away. Living in L.A. all of my life (Crenshaw District Stand Up!), and having lost my husband to a bullet in the back of the head, I know not to take chances and to always be aware of my surroundings. Thankfully, it was all good. That side exit was the move when it was over; straight outside and into the parking lot with no hassle. All in all, it was a good night. Though a lil' shaky at first we made it through. I look back on that night now and am thankful for the hour-long wait. It taught me patience because I was on the verge of leaving. And, if I had left, I would have missed an incredible show and the chance I got to talk to some of the soldiers in this New West Movement before hand. You may not realize, but this is history in the making! (Please check the video clips for footage).
Since the party (12/22) we spoke to Glasses via tmail (T-mobile Sidekick 2) to find out what's being going on with him since his deal signing. Our original magazine interview (9/09/05) was about him as an underground artist on the grind. It was time to catch up and find out what life is like now, after signing with a major for 1.7 million dollars. Yea, that's right, 1.7 mill! G. Malone Follow-Up Interview Via Tmail on January 03, 2005 How were your Holidays? How did you bring in the New Year? Your signing party at The Grande a few weeks ago (12/22/05) was cra-zy! Not only did you pay for an open bar (free all night) but you advertised it on the radio. Did you get the outcome that you expected? Did you have a good time? Talk to me about it. For the article, I'm reviewing the video footage from The Grande. Just got a reminder of how damn flyy you were. Tell me about the jacket! Designer? Where'd u buy it?
